Finnish design has long been known for its innovative, functional and
high quality edge – rightfully so. As with music, architecture and other arts,
a dialogue with nature is reflected in many Finnish design pieces. Legendary
international brands such as Iittala, Marimekko, Nokia and Artek have paved way
for new successes like Ivana Helsinki, Secto, Tonfisk, Rovio and Jolla. The
country breathes new ideas and invests heavily on research and development.
Helsinki’s host year as the World Design Capital in 2012 left the city
pulsating creative energy – there’s never been a better time to go visit!
For us at A Piece Of Finland, design means something original, interesting and
fun. We want to offer our customers quality goods, which reflect Finnish values
– whether they’d be those of the modern and vibrant Finland or those of the
more traditional, tranquil one.
Food is one of the most
essential parts of any culture
and usually the first thing an expatriate
misses from their original home country.
We’re no different.
The typical cuisine of Finland suddenly becomes
all the more desirable when it’s not available anymore.
But who says it cannot be available?
We believe in sharing. So please stop by, check out our collection
of ever-changing delicacies, have a taste and bring some home with you!
Behind all the beautiful design items and food shelves,
we operate a small coffee corner, full of Finnish treats!
Karelian pies, cinnamon buns and gravlax on rye bread are
always available, and we like to surpise you with other rotating yummies
such as ‘Finnish’ pastry, mincemeat pies, chocolate cakes and
mustard herring on traditional archipelago loaf.
In addition to refreshments such as Pommac and Jaffa,
we serve both tea and outstanding filter coffee from a Finnish roastery
We welcome you with a smile, every day!

It was a rainy Amsterdam afternoon when the two Finnish ladies first met. Anna had spent a few months prior developing a concept for a space in which Finnish culture meets food, design and travel. Ramona had in turn been nurturing a dream of a combined café & shop, for Finnish products. After a brief chat, the women decided to put their heads together and start a new, exciting journey of entrepreneurship together.
The decision made on a wintery afternoon has led to a successful partnership and the opening of A Piece Of Finland, in April 2014. We are the Finnish Design Shop & Coffee Corner in Amsterdam, providing a unique service and a living room for finnofans and anyone else looking to connect to Finnish goods, travel and culture.
Come meet us at Haarlemmerdijk 66, and we can have a chat!
PS: We also act as a platform for events – keep an eye out!
Anna is the initial creative force behind the project. She focuses on developing the store’s concept, planning and actualizing projects within, perfecting visual elements and refreshing social media and the website. A professional musician, freelance-journalist and previously also a music teacher, Anna is driven by a passion for authentic experiences, realizing dreams and generating new ideas. She exhibits a healthy love for her
native country and sincerely wants to share it with the world.
Anna was born and raised in Turku, the old capital city of Finland. Her family and many good friends still live there, and she visits as often as possible. In 2010, after falling in love with a Dutch man, Anna settled down in Amsterdam. She is expressive, ambitious, a little stubborn and loves a good laugh. In addition to working her butt off, Anna enjoys sunshine, good wine, taking photographs and emerging herself in travel, whenever possible.
Ramona has a natural gift with people and a wealth of experience in customer services, combined with a love of numbers and challenges. Ramona’s focus, besides the products, is also to develop the business with Anna. Working many years as a Hotel Manager in Amsterdam, she knows the tourist market well and has developed a large Finnish and local Dutch network.
Ramona was born in Helsinki and she still loves the beautiful capital of Finland. Due to her grandparents, Ramona spent a large portion of her childhood in the East of Finland, Karelia. A piece of her heart has remained in that lovely part of Finland!! After marrying a Dutchman, and having three wonderful half Dutch and half Finnish children, Ramona has become also more and more of a local, but still in her heart she will always be 100% Finnish!
Traveling with family and friends, having a glass of wine with the “borrel” or just relaxing with a good movie are things she enjoys most at the moment.
